Reading a little of the Rule each day gives its words time to settle into ordinary life. You’re welcome to bring that daily reading to your own website with the Ordinary Things Rule widget.
It shows a passage from our English reading edition of The Rule of Saint Benedict, chosen for the visitor’s local calendar date. It follows a traditional Benedictine schedule that reads through the Rule three times a year, beginning January 1, May 2, and September 1. Some communities follow a different division of the readings.
Add it to your website
Copy the whole line below and paste it into your page’s HTML, or a custom HTML block, where you want the reading to appear. Your site must allow JavaScript. Use an HTML block, not a code-display block, on your own page.
<script src="https://brianjunyor.com/rule-widget/rule-widget.v1.js" defer></script>
Save or publish your page, then open it to see the reading. It changes with the date in each visitor’s browser, so there is no daily editing to do.
The script and its stylesheet are hosted on brianjunyor.com. The widget sets no cookies and includes no tracking. Please keep the edition credit and links that appear with each reading. The English text is edited by Brian Junyor (2026), published by Ordinary Things Press, and shared under CC BY 4.0. You can also read the full Rule here.
